F.A.Qs

What is an NVQ?

The NVQ is a nationally recognised qualification and is a process of building a portfolio of evidence through methods such as:

Will I have to attend training sessions?

As a centre we deliver underpinning knowledge sessions which are vital for candidates to obtain the knowledge and information required which will enable you to implement this in your working practice.

Which NVQ would be best for me to do?

If you work in a setting that ‘cares’ for children, focusing on their learning and development, you should complete the CCLD award. If you work in a ‘play’ setting, that allows children to freely choose and create their own play, you should complete Playwork. Age range is irrelevant in choosing your NVQ subject, it entirely depends on what your setting offers and what the children do. The setting you work in will determine what qualification is suitable for you.

What if I do not work in a childcare setting?

If you currently don’t work within a childcare setting, and you are interested in a career working with children, an assessor can meet with you to discuss which qualification will be best to suit your needs, and a suitable work placement can be sought on your behalf. We ask that candidates work at least 9 hours a week, paid or voluntary in a suitable setting.

We have on site qualified NVQ Assessors, who will support you throughout your qualification, and will visit you in your workplace.

We are also in the process of arranging underpinning knowledge sessions for candidates to obtain the knowledge and information which will enable you to implement this in your working practice.
